Tangram, a new option based on GNOME to group our web-apps

Tangram

We recently talked to you about twinux, which was basically a browser tab that could only access Twitter and its options. twinux is perfect if what we want is simply that, to have Twitter in a separate tab without depending on the browser. But, what if we wanted to have more web-apps in the same app? Well, there are alternatives like Franz, Rambox or, a newer one, Tangram, an option specially designed for the GNOME graphical environment.

What's so good about Tangram? Like many of the applications built for GNOME, its simplicity and, if we use the graphical environment of the standard version of Ubuntu, which integrates perfectly. Other similar applications have options that can confuse some users, such as adding a custom icon for each app or indicating whether or not we want notifications for a specific service. That confusion does not exist in Tangram, since it is an app with very few options.

Tangram, all your web-apps in the same app

To add a new service we just have to do the following:

  1. We click on the new tab icon on the right. This will open a new tab and activate the address bar (URL).
  2. We add the desired URL, such as twitter.com. The rest (https: //) is added automatically.
  3. On the right, a button appears with the text «Done». We click on it.
  4. In the window that appears, we confirm that we want to add the service with the indicated name and URL. That's all.

There are some services, such as Twitter, that do not support notifications, something that also happens in twinux. On the other hand, other services such as WhatsApp or Telegram do support notifications. Like many other apps of this type, if we want to add a web-app of a service that requires two-step verification, we will not be able to because it cannot show pop-up windows.

The only thing we can configure in Tangram is the position of the tabs, by default on the left. Also, once the services have been added, we can reorder the tabs just as we do in Firefox or Chrome. Simple and functional.

Tangram is available as flatpak package, so to install it we will have to previously enable the support as explained in this article. It is one more option that is worth considering.

    Ansonsten gut gemacht.
