The best keyboard shortcuts to work with Gnome

Keyboard

With the arrival of Gnome to Ubuntu 17.10, many users have decided to use Gnome again or meet for the first time one of the oldest and most famous desktops in the Gnu / Linux world. Little by little we are discovering new functions and new utilities of this desktop, but there are still old methods that are unknown, such as keyboard shortcuts.

Lkeyboard shortcuts or key combinations make working with Gnome and any other desktop faster than normal. It may seem like a lie, but it is true that we work faster through the keys on our keyboard than with the best graphic icon and the mouse.

Here we tell you some of the most necessary and important keyboard shortcuts. Then we will tell you how to customize these shortcuts and we will show you a guide to keyboard combinations that can be used as the desktop background of our Gnome.

  • Ctrl + Alt + T --> Open a blank terminal.
  • Alt + F4 -> Close an active window.
  • Alt + Shift + Tab -> Change windows in reverse order.
  • Alt + Tab -> Switch windows.
  • Ctrl + Alt + Left Direction (or Right) -> Change workspace.
  • Ctrl + "+" -> Zoom in on the screen.
  • Ctrl + "-" -> Reduce the screen.
  • Alt + F2 -> Open a box that will allow us to run any application, we just have to write its name.
  • Print Screen –> Take a screenshot of our desktop.
  • Alt + Print Screen -> Take a screenshot of the active window.
  • Swift + Print Screen -> Take a screenshot of the area that we indicate on the desktop.

These are the most important but there are more and even these can be changed or customized. For this we just have to go to Settings -> Devices–> Keyboard. A window will appear with a list of all combinations and keyboard shortcuts. To modify it we only have to double click on the shortcut that we want to customize and press the new combination. We save them and we will have the new keyboard combination for our Gnome ready. And the image with the most common keyboard shortcuts is the following:
