KDE Frameworks 6 development will start by cleaning up the code from previous versions

KDE Frameworks 6

When we talk about KDE software, I think I am not wrong when I say that the first thing many of us think about is Plasma. This is one of the best graphical environments available on Linux, but the full KDE experience is only achieved if we also bundle other software such as KDE Applications. Their libraries are also more important than we think, those that improve the user experience, and soon the serious development of Framework 6.

Last Friday, Clement Lefebvre spoke to us for the first time from Linux Mint 20, but he did it to tell us that he won't start focusing on it until he fixes various bugs found in Linux Mint 19.3. This is something that it seems KDE Community will also do: the first thing they will do is port or even remove code from deprecated or obsolete functions from older Frameworks. We remember that the most updated stable version is Framework 5.65.

KDE Frameworks 6 won't arrive until at least 2021

Among the changes that are working and that will arrive with Frameworks 6, we have:

  • Port code from Kdelibs4.
  • Separate or zoom out KTorrent from WebKit.
  • Move more KHTML code.
  • Port other code from KtcpSocket and QSslError, among other obsolete bits.
  • It is expected that in the future they will remove or scrap more code that they have not mentioned yet.

At the time of writing these lines still it is not known when the first version will be released KDE Frameworks 6 stable. they have programmed is Frameworks 5.77, which will arrive, if there is no setback, in December 2020. With so much time ahead, it is more than likely that we will be told about many more changes before the arrival of KF6.

Clearly, for most users, Frameworks updates are unexciting, but they are more than necessary. In fact, for many users, including myself, the latest version has fixed the image issues we were experiencing since the release of Kubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine.

You have all the information from December on the development of KF6 in this link.
