The emoji will arrive in Plasma from next February

Emoji in Plasma 5.18

At the beginning of this decade, coinciding with the boom of (good) mobile operating systems, everything was emoji, emoji, emoji ... It is not that today they have forgotten them, but their news are no longer as important as before. These Emoji they are available as an option on smartphone keyboards, but also on web services like Twitter. On desktop systems, macOS is the best integrated one, but Plasma users will soon be able to say the same.

So He let us know today Nate Graham, who writes a weekly article on what's coming to the KDE world. Coinciding with the arrival of plasma 5.18, they are going to implement a simple way to launch an emoji selector, with search included. This will allow us to use emoji in any app or service that can display them. To launch it, you will have to use the combination of keys META + Period (on a Spanish keyboard it is META + Period).

When will the Emoji and everything else arrive in KDE

As always, Graham includes at the end of each feature when it will be available, or more specifically next to which release it will arrive. The Emoji will arrive next to plasma 5.18, what is programmed for the Next February 11. Plasma 5.17.5 is coming next Tuesday, January 7. KDE Applications 19.12 will be officially released on December 12, but we still don't know the exact day that 20.04 will arrive. We do know that they will arrive in the middle of April, but they should not arrive in time to include them in Kubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa. On the other hand, KDE Frameworks 5.65 will be available from December 14th.

It is important to remember that in order to install all these new features as soon as they are available we have to add the Backports repository from KDE or use an operating system with special repositories like KDE neon.
