The new version of Quirky Linux 8.7.1 has been released

QuirkyLinux is a sister project of Puppy Linux, a Linux distribution created with a custom tool called Woof.

Which provides the distribution with underlying infrastructure, such as startup and shutdown scripts, staging tools, hardware detection, desktop management, user interface, acceleration, and general ease-of-use management.

These tools are common to all distributions created with Woof.

However, a special build will have a different set of package selection and further customization (even a completely different binary package).

About Quirky Linux

Quirky was developed by the founders of Puppy Linux and Woof to push the boundaries and try some new ideas about the underlying infrastructure, and some of them may be radical or weird, as the name Quirky suggests.

Some programs have been removed from distribution like VLC, the multimedia player, this has been replaced by Xine, a lighter player, Mozilla SeaMonkey, a stable version of this alternative to Mozilla Firefox.

The distribution uses the same minimalist start menu which is also found in the main Puppy Linux operating system, as well as other Pupplets.

The main attraction of any Puppy Linux operating system is the classic and traditional desktop environment, which is powered by JWM (Joe's Window Manager), a minimal and very fast window manager that looks cartoonish, but very attractive.

And they also include a full suite of top-notch programs.

The current version throws some of the old software baggage, like Ami Word and the Gnumeric spreadsheet.

Instead, orYou have the LibreOffice 5 office suite and many more commercial and multimedia software seeds.

The default web browser is SeaMonkey , but there are other options available in PETget Package Manager.

Also included in this Linux distribution are the Leafpad text editor and Geany IDE / editor.

Although we can also find many other standard applications are the ROX-filer file manager, the MPlayer multimedia player and the CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) support for printing.

En general, the software available through the Quirky repository will handle most, if not all, of typical user needs.

It uses a single panel design from where the user can easily access the main menu, launch applications and interact with running programs.
