The second beta of Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak is now available

ubuntu pets

Although it has arrived a little late, we can say that We already have the new Ubutnu beta 16.10 available, also known by the nickname Yakkety Yak.

This beta version presents some new features that we will see in Ubuntu 16.10 but by default everything that it offers us will not be activated, such as the ability to change Unity 7 to Unity 8, something that will only be advisable to do with the final version, although some brave ones have already tried it.

Unity 7 will continue to be the main desktop but we also find other novelties such as the inclusion of Linux kernel 4.8, inclusion that we can already see in this beta version.

Ubuntu 16.10 will not have Unity 8 yet but the 4.8 kernel

The final version of Ubuntu 16.10 will be released or will be made public on October 13, just two weeks after this launch. But in the meantime we can enjoy and install the images of the beta version in a virtual machine. Not only from the main Ubuntu version but also from some official flavors like Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio or Kubuntu.

In any case, it must be remembered that this release is only a beta version, that is, a development version, a version that is not yet for production teams and that therefore it is only advisable to test in a virtual machine. In any case, in this link You will get not only the beta version of Ubuntu 16.10 but also the installation images of the official flavors corresponding to this beta.

Personally I have always had better experiences with the October releases than with the April releases and I'm not the only one, so I may change my LTS version for this Yakkety Yak, although the fact that there are few new features in the main version makes me back off because LTS is a great security. And you Will you change your LTS version for the new Ubuntu 16.10? What do you think of this new version?

I think it is more advisable to use the LTS versions, I personally never recommend the intermediate versions, their support is of a very short time and generally they are not very stable.
