These are some of the new features that Ubuntu Budgie 17.10 will have

Budgie-Remix, Ubuntu Budgie coming soon

The development of Ubuntu 17.10 continues and we know the news of the main version as well as some official Ubuntu flavors. Recently, Ikey Doherty, main developer of Budgie Desktop has presented some of the new features that his desktop will have soon, news that will be present in Ubuntu Budgie 17.10.

These new features notably improve the desktop although we have to say that the desktop will continue to use the GTK libraries, once again postponing the use of Qt libraries and with it the release of version 11 of Budgie Desktop.

The next version of Budgie Desktop will have a new dock installed by default. If you use Ubuntu Budgie you will have verified that it has Plank as the default dock. But this will no longer be the case since Budgie Desktop in its next version will use a panel as a dock, which will lighten the desktop a lot, but the result will be the same.

Ikey Doherty has confirmed a change to the desktop panels. This means that the panels can be used as docks, vertically as Unity or they can be automatically hidden to have a full screen. Items that other desktops have but that Ubuntu Budgie didn't have yet.

The system settings panel will change, although not completely. The developers of Budgie Desktop want to get rid of their Gnome heritage and little by little tools are changing to make them independent of Gnome libraries and dependencies. In this case the settings application has changed a bit but it will still have some Gnome functions.

The night mode will also come to the desktop. This mode that Gnome has comes to Budgie Desktop and will allow us to work in places with low light without affecting our eyesight. And finally, the application menu will be rewritten and improved in order to be faster and more manageable for the end user. These new features will be present in Ubuntu Budgie 17.10 and in previous versions that use this desktop. A fairly light and lightweight desk that has more and more followers Don't you think so?

If main Ubuntu returns to Gnome then what will happen Ubuntu Gnome will disappear to be ubuntu? And what will happen to the future Unity 8 environment supposedly in development? Will it be canceled? or just go back to gnome for a bit while unity is redesigned
