Trisquel 8 Flidas already has its first Alpha

Nativity scenes

The first Alpha image of Trisquel 8 Flidas, a new version of Trisquel, was recently released. This new version is based on the latest version of Ubuntu but it will not have the same as this one. Trisquel offers a totally free operating system, without any proprietary software. This is key because it makes the distribution have to change the main desktop.

Thus, Trisquel 8 Flidas will have MATE 1.12.1 instead of Gnome, because the latest versions of Gnome need graphical acceleration, something that users can obtain through proprietary drivers, mainly.

The first Trisquel 8 Alpha also presents us with a polished design that will have the new version as well as new features and apps that little by little will be implemented in the distribution as a more optimized control center or the possibility of installing applications through CLI (the latter will be known in future developments).

Trisquel 8 Flidas has changed its main desktop to MATE, the popular fork of Gnome

This new development of the next version of Trisquel can be achieved through this link. The resulting image is an unstable version and not recommended for use on production equipment. But if you want to try it, it is best to use a virtual machine, something that will allow us to know and learn about the latest Trisquel without jeopardizing our work.

Unfortunately we do not know when the stable image of this new version will be available nor if we will know new official flavors related to Trisquel, but the good thing is that the development of this distribution continues, something that many of us doubted because of the time since the last stable version available. In any case, it seems that in 2017 we will start you with one more free distribution, something always positive although I recognize that Ubuntu and its flavors are not bad either Do not you think?
