Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS is officially released

ubuntu 16.04

After a long wait, Canonical has decided to release the latest update to Ubuntu LTS 16.04.2 (Xenial Xerus), which comes officially with the long-awaited Kernel 4.8 update directly from Ubuntu 16.10. As expected with such an update. Ubuntu 16.0.4.2 LTS involves a minor revision which brings together a collection of security patches and system updates compiled by Canonical itself.

The novelty that this update does include is the new graphics library and kernel directly ported from Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak). Therefore, the biggest change that we can experience with this new operating system since Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.04.01, is the new kernel based on Linux 4.8.

In the same way, the graphic set that now is based on X.Org 1.18.4 and Mesa 3D 12.0.6 server have been updated. Days ago we told you how to update Mesa 3D libraries to version 13.0, so you can take advantage of the occasion and make the most of your graphics card with that little update. You will notice that with the latest version hardware rendering is sped up of the images thanks to its optimization. The support of this new architecture is for all platforms, with the 32-bit PowerPC exception, and will be installed by default in all configurations that use desktop.

In the case of the kernel, Ubuntu Server-based images will use the GA kernel by default, although the HWE kernel can be chosen at installation boot.

The official Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS images are now available for download through the following link, as in its most popular flavors such as Kubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, Xubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, Lubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, Mythbuntu 16.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu Studio 16.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu MATE 16.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.2 LTS and Ubuntu Kylin 16.04.2 LTS. This long stand version has yet three more updates planned before its support expires.

I am fairly new to Ubuntu and it was like arriving in the middle of a conversation, it took me some time to understand what they were talking about.

It must be of great interest to people who use ubuntu, but for me the truth is not because I do not know all the terms that linux and ubuntu handle.
