Ubuntu 16.04.2 suffers a new lag. Will it arrive on Monday?

Ubuntu 16.04.2

It was expected for February 2, it was delayed to the 9 of the same month, we are at the 10th and ... it has not yet arrived. Canonical announced yesterday that Ubuntu 16.04.2 It is not ready for release yet because they still have some issues to fix, so the next update of the latest LTS version of the operating system developed by Canonical has met its third delay, if the accounts do not fail us.

There is probably something going on that Canonical doesn't tell us about. Initially, Ubuntu releases take place on Thursday, but it seems that the final release date of Ubuntu 16.04.2 will be the next Monday, February 13. This will be the case as long as no major new bugs are discovered that need to be corrected. We remember that we are talking about the second important update of the latest LTS version of Ubuntu and all its official flavors.

Ubuntu 16.04.2 will use Linux Kernel 4.8

There are still a few bits that I need to sort to get images from the server, but that shouldn't make people stop testing desktop images. I think it's clear, given that I've been working for the last 24 hours straight and need a nap before diving in again, that there probably won't be a release on Thursday (today). It could still be Friday, but Monday seems like a more reasonable goal.

In another message, Adam Conrad also explained that there will be no PowerPC (PPC) ISO images for Ubuntu MATE and Lubuntu flavors because Canonical is preparing to stop supporting this architecture. It is recommended that users of a PPC architecture device install Ubuntu 16.04 or Ubunu 16.04.1, but they will not be able to use Linux Kernel 4.8 on these platforms.

Canonical will still offer support for Linux Kernel 4.4 for Ubuntu 16.04 until the latest LTS version of its operating system reaches the end of its cycle, or what is the same, until April 2021. Conrad says there will be no alternative ISO images for Lubuntu, so users with a modest team will have to look for alternatives.

Hello, Einar. They are official Canonical releases. On the other hand, on the Ubuntu website the .2 does not appear yet https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

      A greeting.

Hello Einar by default kernel 4.8 is not installed, for this you must execute the following command $ sudo apt install –install-recommends xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 or sudo apt install –install-recommends linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 if what you want is to install only the kernel and not the graphical stack.
    regards
