The time is near. Yesterday, March 22, the final countdown began for one of the most anticipated releases in recent years, that of the final version of Ubuntu LTS 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), in the form of its final beta freeze, at which point the developers can no longer deliver any more changes. Tomorrow day March 24,Ubuntu 16.04LTS will be available in beta version and Canonical will make available to anyone who wants to test the ISO images of the trial version of their operating system.
For a long time, Canonical only launches a beta of Ubuntu and does it a month before the official launch. Some of their flavors do release Alpha versions, which helps them test parts of the system that could not be tested otherwise, since many of the important changes focus on the standard version of Ubuntu. I know that many of you will be thinking that you have already been able to test the next version of the system developed by Canonical, but the version that was available was a "Daily Build", a test version with many more changes and potential problems than a current beta.
The final beta of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will arrive on March 24
Tomorrow it will be possible to download the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS ISO images and, good news for the owners of a computer with limited resources, it will be available in 32-bit in addition to the logical 64-bit version. The kernel included will be Linux Kernel 4.4. Although it is already a beta, which means that it is already ready to be tested publicly (the Alpha version should be for internal testing of a project), we do not recommend its installation in the same way that we do not recommend the installation of any other software under tests . If it is already possible to experience bugs in a final version, it is more likely to run into problems earlier in the development of any software. The rest of the Ubuntu flavors will also have beta starting tomorrow.
If I have to be honest, I get the bug to install the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS beta as soon as it is available. But if I decide to do it, I think I will do it on a USB. I want to see some of the improvements in the next version of Ubuntu, but I have to confess that I have been using it for a week. Kubuntu and I think I have already found the flavor of the Canonical system that I will stick with. Of course, it depends on the news (such as the design that they want to improve and some functions) that Ubuntu 16.04 LTS includes. I'll see what I do.
You can update directly to the final version from this beta, or you will have to do a clean installation.
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Thanks Rafa G. The point is that from the first image that came out of Xenial Xerus that did not even have the cup server installed, it could not be updated to beta 1 with sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. I even tried adding the beta 1 software channels and they were the same, but still nothing. Thank you for the confirmation.
It should, since it is final beta and there will be no major changes.
Love for Ubuntu.
To clarify. Is unity 7 with option to 8. Or is there no 8 Per installed?
Hi, Tevice. The final version is supposed to arrive with Unity 8. Right now there is 7 and 8 can be installed with a command. I have tried it and on my laptop it leaves me the screen in black, so I have to force a shutdown.
A greeting.
Thank you pablo. I do not see the hour. At the moment I installed it on my 14 LTS and the same black screen.
Greetings.
I did a search just now and it is a known bug. They are looking at it on the Launchpad (a kind of Reddit where these bugs are reported).
Let's see if they fix it soon because I feel like it too. It looks so good.
