It's been a long time since he Software Center Ubuntu came to us but, if I have to be honest, it is something that I have never liked. With each Ubuntu installation that I have done, the first thing I have installed has been the Synaptic Package Manager, which I have always used since I started using the Canonical system in its sixth version. It seems like they think like me at Canonical and will remove the Software Center when Ubuntu LTS 16.04 be released publicly in April of this year.
Still with plans to remove it on the horizon, the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Software Center build daily has received a new update. The Ubuntu Software Center 16.01 version has been the new and important update, a version that has seen the old user interface based on gtk + be eliminated. Also, "Ubuntu One" tokens are now used to authenticate with the server, the .desktop file has been removed to avoid unnecessary duplication, support for Adwaite Dark Theme Variant, extra support channels have been removed and the missing library has been added glib, among other novelties.
Ubuntu Software Center will be removed
Like me, developers have never liked the Ubuntu Software Center. In addition, Canonical has not offered much support either, which has resulted in a slowness that users of Ubuntu-based operating systems are not used to experiencing. Its development has been practically stopped for years, as evidenced by the gigantic leap that has been made from version 13.10 to version 16.01.
Canonical's idea, with which I can't (almost) agree more, is to replace the Software Center with an Ubuntu-adapted version of GNOMEsoftware, but this change will be made only as of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Without a doubt, this will be one of the many positive changes that will come in the next version of Canonical's operating system. I always end up saying the same thing, but I'm looking forward to seeing what this version of Ubuntu is capable of when it's out of beta. It will be worth it and depending on your performance it could make you go back to using the official version and not the Mate version. In less than four months we will know.
when will ubuntu 16.04 be ready? and is it compatible with 2gb RAM machines?
It will be ready in April (that's why it's .04) and can be downloaded from the ubuntu page. In fact now you can install the first beta, but it does not have any visual modifications. I'm waiting on Tuesday 12 to install Remix Os (android perfectly adapted for pc [laptop, pc and even tablets])
Thanks for the answer, friend
does that such remix OS also run apk files? is it easy to install or is it like installing arch linux?
and the most important thing works well in a virtual machine?
Sorry for getting into the conversation can you leave me the link of the remix I would like to try it thanks

I read that for April 21 but I do not know if it is true information. and if it supports it I will install the beta. and it works great I have a 2gb minilaptop and it works great. and change the ubuntu software center, it will only be called software and it is faster than the ubuntu software center
regards
and where can I download it?
And wasn't it going to disappear as such from Ubuntu 16.04?
I do the same, one of the first things I do is install synaptic, the software center is much slower, although for newbies it is more friendly, but the most positive thing about Linux is that there are several options for different tasks.
I think the beta is coming out in April. and I think that if you are going to do it ... if you get the 15.10 if you get the 16.04 greetings

In Lubuntu 14.04 it has the software center but it shows the installed applications only. I have it with 2gb and it works beautiful
not that they are going to delete it>
