Ubuntu 17.04 already has its Final Beta

Ubuntu 17.04

As reported by Adam Conrad, Today Thursday the Final Beta of Ubuntu 17.04 will arrive Zesty Zapus, a beta that is created after the development freeze of the version.

This means that the development of Ubuntu 17.04 continues but that no new components will be added or even new functions will be added, only what is available so far. The work will focus on polishing everything new incorporated so far.

La version freeze has taken place on March 21, so some new components and programs that have been released during this week such as Gnome 3.24 or Firefox 52.0.1 will not be present in the version, or at least in the major version of Ubuntu.

Gnome 3.24 will not be in the official Ubuntu 17.04 repositories, although it may be in Ubuntu Gnome

During the last months, several official flavor teams have skipped the official calendar in search of a better development of their flavor, which has meant that when an alpha version was launched, some flavors did not have it. Y With Ubuntu 17.04, this unbundling has become more apparent than ever. By this we mean that although Ubuntu does not have software like Gnome 3.24, Ubuntu Gnome may incorporate it through other methods, although we do not officially know anything about it.

An example of this occurs in Lubuntu, the official flavor that works with LXDE as the main desktop and will not change it for LXQT in this version. But not everything is absences, MATE 1.18, the new version of MATE, will come to Ubuntu 17.04 as well as the latest version of Plasma LTS, something that will please its users. The flatpak and snap packages will also be more consolidated in this release, although Ubuntu gives more importance to the snap packages. In any case, Ubuntu 17.04 is still unstable and despite being Final Beta, we do not recommend installing on production computers.

Gnome 3.24 will be almost entirely on 17.04 as I've been reading. Also, in the Ubuntu repositories I just confirmed that it is gnome-shell 3.24 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/+source/gnome-shell
