Ubuntu 17.10 will be a more private Ubuntu version

Ubuntu 17.10

Will Cooke, the leader of the Ubuntu desktop section, has reported on the work that his team is doing for the next Ubuntu version, that is, for Ubuntu 17.10. The new version still has Unity 7 as we have said before, but Cooke has indicated that this time it will be used as a desktop in case of error or in low graphic mode. This option is being incorporated into the GDM session manager, the new distribution manager.

They keep working on Gnome, cleaning the version of applications that are not going to be used and modifying some for its correct operation within Ubuntu.

But without a doubt, the most striking thing will be the inclusion of a captive portal in the distribution, something that will make our connections more private if they fit, giving the possibility for the user to choose certain types of data that NetworkManager will manage, the Ubuntu connection manager. It will also disable the connectivity check through the D-Bus interface.

Will Cooke's team is also working on clean the distribution of unnecessary packages and libraries that the distribution has of obsolete programs or programs that no longer use when updated. A minor maintenance task for many but essential for a Gnu / Linux distribution and for its stable operation.

In addition, Ubuntu 17.10 has received during these days the latest versions of popular programs such as LibreOffice 5.3.4, Evolution 3.24.2 or GStreamer 1.12.2, which join the latest versions of programs that Ubuntu has and that were added in recent weeks.

This information is not very important for the Gnu / Linux world but for the Ubuntu world, a world that it received a few days ago an alert signal for the low testing that the new version was receiving and that seems to have been corrected. In any case, everything follows its normal course and it seems that within three months we will have Ubuntu 17.10 on our computers Do not you think?
