Ubuntu 17.10 will have a new dock, but no Dash To Dock

Ubuntu Gnome

Ubuntu 17.10 will bring by default Gnome Shell as the desktop of the distribution. This change has been very popular, since the vertical Unity panel will finally disappear from the Ubuntu distribution. This is a problem for many users who have become accustomed to operating with this panel as an alternative dock.

Since then it has been rumored to use Gnome extensions like Dash to dock o Dash to Panel, extensions that would allow us to customize the desktop and shape Unity.

These extensions are fine and they are a complete solution but it will not be the solution that the Ubuntu team will use. As Didier Roche has commented, Ubuntu 17.10 will have a new dock, but it will not be an extension or an official application like Plank, it will be a normal Gnome Shell panel used as a dock, in this case a vertical dock.

Ubuntu 17.10 will have a panel that will function as a dock for the Gnome desktop

However We do not know what it will look like in the end or what will happen to the dash, doubts that still maintain the Ubuntu community. However, the positive news is the confirmation of the dock, an accessory that more and more users use and that they consider as an important tool to have in their operating system.

In any case, whether or not we have a dock that we like, we always have the option of installing it ourselves. Ubuntu 17.10 will be compatible with the most famous and popular docks like Plank. We also have the option of using official extensions such as Dash to Dock or Dash to Panel, extensions that are compatible with the Ubuntu 17.10 version of Gnome and we can use them.

Finally exists the ability to switch desktops. Something fully compatible and possibly the option that many users end up using. For this we have the possibility of using the official flavor with the new desktop or directly using the desktop. In any case, Ubuntu 17.10 and Gnome are a reality Do not you think?

I love my Ubuntu but I strongly abhor the typographical handling and lack of detail that exists even in the most mainstream distro. I understand the feeling within the creation of the font, but the work sucks. Hopefully in the future they will decide to use some other proposals from the open source community.
