Canonical usually releases the new versions of their operating systems on Thursday, and on Thursday today has released Ubuntu 18.04.3. This is the third maintenance release of the Ubuntu version released in April 2018 and it comes six months after Ubuntu 18.04.2. The second maintenance update for Bionic Beaver arrived with the Hardware Enablement (HWE) of Cosmic Cuttlefish (18.10) and this third update has arrived to update some components.
Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS comes with all security updates that have been published in the official repositories since February 14, when the second maintenance update was released. Among the most outstanding novelties we have that it now uses the Linux kernel 5.0 of Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo, as well as the graphics stacks of the latest version of Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 18.04.3 includes security patches from the last 6 months
Bionic Beaver users can upgrade to the new version from the same operating system, either from the different software centers, from the Software Update app or by opening a terminal and typing the following:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
On the other hand, the new versions already appear on the official websites of Ubuntu y Ubuntu MATE; all other flavors (Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio, and Ubuntu Kylin) have not uploaded the new images at the time of writing. If you are users of an Ubuntu flavor other than the main version or Ubuntu MATE and you want to perform a new installation of Xbuntu 18.04.3, you will have to be a little more patient and wait until the images upload, something that will probably happen during the present day.
We remember that Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver is an LTS version, which means that it will enjoy 5 years of support that will last until April 2023.
