Ubuntu 21.10 beta now available, with Linux 5.13 and GNOME 40

Ubuntu 21.10beta

One of the most important steps in the development of the next version of Canonical's system has been taken hours ago. Being Thursday somewhere in the world, it is now available for download Ubuntu 21.10 Beta, so Impish Indri can already be tested in a state close to what it will be when the stable version is released. It comes with important news if we compare it with Hirsute Hippo, but it could still be better.

Mid august we publish an article in which we said that Ubuntu 21.10 could stay in GNOME 40, and it seems that it will be so in the end. What wasn't released with the 4 so as not to be confused with GTK4 came about six months ago, and it did so with very useful features like touchpad gestures. In GNOME 41 there has been an important leap in quality, between which we have a superior performance, but it seems that Ubuntu users will have to wait a little longer to be able to verify it.

Ubuntu 21.10 will arrive on October 14

Another novelty that will arrive with Ubuntu 21.10 may also know little by little, and it seems that will stay in Linux 5.13, despite the fact that Linux 5.14 has been available for weeks and Impish Indri will still take three weeks to arrive.

As for the rest of the news, most are related to the kernel and the graphical environment, and we have to remember that there are seven official flavors which would also stay on Linux 5.13, such as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Kylin.

Users interested in installing the beta, can download the new images entering cdimage.ubuntu.com, then flavor, then releases, and finally Impish. We can also install it by typing sudo do-release-upgrade -d and following the instructions on the screen. For those of us who prefer to wait, Ubuntu 21.10 will arrive on October 14.
