Have you heard that today launched a new version of Ubuntu family? Surely yes. As you already know or should know, the Ubuntu family consists of several operating systems, 8 to be exact. Among those 8 we have something for all tastes, such as the main version (Ubuntu), the KDE, lighter and more limited (Lubuntu) or even the version for the Chinese market. But what interests us in this article is Ubuntu Budgie 19.10, the October 2019 release of the latest flavor to arrive in the Ubuntu family.
It was a few moments ago when have announced their launch. Unlike Ubuntu Studio, which has also announced it but its website is still not updated (updated as I was typing) Ubuntu Budgie updated his web page minutes after the ISO image was available on the Ubuntu FTP server. With the image available, the updated web page and the announcement made, the Ubuntu Budgie 19.10 Eoan Ermine release is now 100% official.
Ubuntu Budgie 19.10 highlights
- Supported for 9 months, until July 2020.
- Latest version of the Budgie desktop (10.5) on a GNOME 3.34 stack.
- Latest versions of Budgie applets.
- NVIDIA drivers installed automatically from ISO.
- Initial support for ZFS as root.
- Nemo has been updated to version v4.
- Ability to enable or disable desktop icons from Budgie's desktop preferences.
- New accessibility options, the desktop keyboard and the magnifying glass.
As we read the release note, the Eoan Ermine version of Ubuntu Budgie has been created based on opinions and feedback that users have sent them about versions 18.04, 18.10 and 19.04. This is an important step that comes six months before what will be Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa. If it's like v18.04, it will be supported for three years, until 2023.
