Ubuntu can be obtained from the Microsoft Store

Ubuntu in the Windows Store

Last year we knew the pleasant surprise of the arrival of the Ubuntu Bash to Windows 10. A very pleasant surprise due to the fact that the Ubuntu functionalities could now be used in Windows 10.

Well, now BUILD 2017 is taking place, one of the biggest Microsoft Software events of the year. In this year the event has not detracted anything compared to last year and Microsoft and Windows continue to bet on Gnu / Linux and Ubuntu.

Like a great bombshell, Microsoft has confirmed the arrival of Ubuntu to the Microsoft Store. That is, through the Microsoft Store, users can download and obtain Ubuntu. Once it is downloaded, The ISO image can be installed on our computer together with Windows 10. There is also the option to complete the Ubuntu Bash for Windows 10, adding new packages and functions that will be available in the new terminal.

Ubuntu gets closer to Windows 10 after this Microsoft Store update

Ubuntu will not be the only distribution found in the Microsoft Store, next to it will be OpenSUSE and Fedora. Quite popular distributions but that does not seem to have the same acceptance as Ubuntu, at least in the eyes of Microsoft.

Microsoft Store is an online app store that works the same as the Ubuntu Software Center or the Android Play Store. There is even currently a limited version that only supports installations through this store, so it seems that even the famous cloudbooks may have Ubuntu as an alternative operating system.

Surely many Gnu and distribution lovers are already trembling after hearing this news but the truth is that the union between Ubuntu and Windows is not a negative thing, but quite the opposite or at least I think so What do you think?

Well negative. The implicit message is: "why install Ubuntu if I can run it from Windows" and access and run its programs. " They do not do it thinking of making Ubuntu known to their users, but launch that line of thought, you know, install Windows 10 and then if you want you use the command line to install what you want software. Hardly anything good can come from Microsoft towards free software and I am not saying this because it is Microsoft and I have some stubbornness with them, it is as simple as that Microsoft is a company (sorry for the obvious) and as such it is not acceptable to support competition, even less when it's free.

How sad, from now on everyone will consider Ubuntu as one more Microsoft product. I'm beginning to believe that open source and free software are actually a mirage, a ruse for some enthusiasts to work for free for large companies, like Canonical or Mozilla, which is killing Thunderbird for not being profitable
