Ubuntu Core becomes the second operating system of the IoT

Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Core Logo, and Snappy

The Eclipse Foundation recently released the data from its study on IoT. This data is collected through a survey that has been carried out with various agents in the IoT world. The surprising thing about all this is its results.

According to the survey, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu's operating system for IoT, is the second operating system in the ranking, surpassing operating systems like Android and being very close to the first, Raspbian, the version of Debian for Raspberry Pi.

And no less they are interesting the other data and conclusions offered by the study. On the one hand, users who already use IoT and those who are working on similar projects have confirmed that they are looking for security, an element that many operating systems do not offer as in Ubuntu Core.

Ubuntu Core offers more functionality on free boards than other systems such as Android

Snap packages have favored for Ubuntu Core to be the IoT operating system, since they offer a bit of security and ease when using and managing projects and Hardware.

The IoT world is growing rapidly, a growth that is attracting a lot of attention and that is causing leading companies such as Google or Microsoft to focus on it, but it seems that not even with the resources of these companies they reach a position like Raspbian or Ubuntu Core.

Raspbian has almost 48% of the market while Ubuntu Core has 44%, followed by Android that does not reach 5% and the rest of systems barely exceed 1%.

Windows 10 IoT has also been included but its usage quota is even lower than Android or Tizen, Samsung's operating system. In other words, the first to arrive seem to be staying on the podium for a long time.

I personally believe that Ubuntu Core not only offers security but also a functionality and stability that other operating systems do not offer and that is why together with Raspbian, they occupy the first positions. In any case, it must be recognized that it is a market that is growing rapidly and this ranking could also change rapidly, but I highly doubt that Ubuntu Core will drop precipitously Do not you think?
