This program offers us the possibility of change the color of multiple folders at the same time. We only have to select the folders that we want to adjust with the mouse or by holding down the Ctrl key while we click on the directories. Right click on any of them and go to the submenu «Folder color»To choose a color from among those offered by the application.

Utility not compatible with all set icons. Although it does work well with a number of popular Linux icon themes, including:

  • Humanity.
  • Papyrus.
  • Numix.
  • Vibratory colors.
  • Vivacious Necklaces.

Depending on the icon theme you are running, you will have several preset color options to choose from the right mouse button menu. This includes common primary colors like yellow, red, and blue. We will also have less primary options such as black, gray and magenta.

If the colors it offers do not convince you or the one you are looking for does not appear on the list, you can set a custom color. This option opens a color selection dialog where you can choose from a wider range of colors. It will also allow us to specify a specific color value or using the HTML color picker.

Another option that the application offers us is that we can quickly reset folders to their default color. It will also allow us set a global color to change the color of all folders at once.

The tool will also allow us to add emblems to folders, for example, 'favorite', 'finished' or 'in progress'.

Folder color works with the Nautilus file manager used in Ubuntu. It also works with the Caja (Ubuntu MATE) and Nemo (Linux Mint) file managers.

If you are using Case o Nemo, you will also have to install the package folder-color-box o folder-color-nemo.

Once the installation is complete we will have to restart Nautilus to bring up the color options menu. To do this we can press Alt + F2. In the window that will open write 'nautilus-q'and press the Enter key. Now we can give a color note by changing the color of folders in our Ubuntu.

      I have read that some people made it work in Xubuntu using the ppa that I show you below. I do not guarantee anything, but you can take the test.

      sudo add-apt-repository ppa: costales / folder-color && sudo apt-get update

      Alfons: Works with Nautilus, Caja or Nemo, regardless of the flavor used. With Thunar it won't work as it doesn't use python plugins.
