Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 beta 2 now available with updated applications and few major changes

Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 beta 2

The countdown continues for the arrival of the Yak that will be the next Ubuntu mascot and all its official flavors. This time we say it because Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 It has already made the second beta of its operating system available to all users, with the main novelty that it comes with a lot of applications GNOME 3.22 Stack, the latest version of the popular graphical environment used in many distributions.

The beta available since yesterday and between updated apps we GNOME Photos 3.22, Videos 3.22 (which is actually Totem), GNOME Books 3.22 y Disc Usage Analyzer 3.22 (which is actually Baobab). The new version will also arrive with Gnome Maps, GNOME Initial Setup y GNOME Characters installed by default, something that personally I am not sure that many users like it. At least those who prefer to have the system with less software installed by default will not like it.

Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 is coming in three weeks

On the other hand, the second beta of the Ubuntu GNOME flavor includes the GTK3 versions of LibreOffice 5.2, an experimental session of Wayland available as an option at login and support for viewing the changelog from the update manager repositories.

To make the system more reliable and stable, the developers of the Ubuntu GNOME team have not included many changes to the main components of the system and they have decided to leave GNOME Shell, GNOME Control Center, Nautilus and GTK + in version 3.20. "Dress me slowly, I'm in a hurry," they must have thought.

Personally, I have tested the graphical environment of this flavor of Ubuntu on different occasions, but I have never used it. I prefer others, like a simple MATE with Plank as a Dock. In any case, we already have the second beta of Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 and we will have the final version mid-October.
