Ubuntu MATE 16.10 will have MATE-HUD

MATTE-HUD

Yesterday we have known the new alphas of Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak and in some cases it has revealed interesting things about the future version, such as the new tool called MATE-HUD. This tool is the same as the Ubuntu Hub, which incorporates Unity, but is applied and used on the MATE desktop.

MATE-HUD is still incipient development so it still has certain problems, but it is true that its operation is quite interesting and for some applications quite functional.

MATE-HUD is not yet compatible with QT libraries

By simply pressing the Cntrl + Alt + Space keys, the user will be able to activate MATE-HUD and be able to handle tools like Nemo or applications like GimpHowever, MATE-HUD is under development and there are some tools that it does not manage well, not to mention that QT libraries still do not manage them, so any program that uses these libraries cannot be controlled through MATE-HUD. In anything, it is a surprising functionality that many will surely use from the next version of Ubuntu MATE.

At the moment we can only use and test MATE-HUD through the Alpha version, that is, we will have to create a virtual machine to install the new version Ubuntu MATE Alpha and try it out. Once this is done, we have to go to MATE-Tweaks and enable the HUD function that appears.

The operation is simple and it will make Ubuntu MATE users have similar functionality to Unity, but it also makes me wonder that if the user chooses Ubuntu MATE it is because its similarity to Gnome 2 and not to Unity or Gnome Shell, so I don't know to what extent the Ubuntu MATE user will accept or use this new tool What do you think? Do you think MATE-HUD will be used by fans of the new official flavor? Do you use the Unity HUD?
