Although it may seem like it has taken a long time, the MATE edition of Ubuntu has not been the last to arrive. Competition or race apart, Ubuntu MATE 21.04 Hirsute Hippo has already been officially released. As we can read in the release note, which, as always, is full of emojis, the furry hippo in the green Ubuntu edition has introduced some aesthetic changes in the form of a theme that they have dubbed Yaru MATE.
Martin Wimpress, who has recently ceased to be Canonical's chief desk officer, along with Monica Ayhens-Madon have published a note that begins by thanking the Yaru team for helping them with this transition. Later on, they get serious and explain what the most outstanding news that have arrived together with Ubuntu MATE 21.04, among which one stands out that is also in the rest of the flavors: Linux 5.11.
Highlights of Ubuntu MATE 21.04

- Ayatana Indicators has added a setting called "Indicators" to the Control Center that can be used to configure the installed indicator. They have also added the printer indicator and removed RedShift.
- New Yaru MATE theme that they have designed from the Yaru using Ubuntu. It includes Suru icons, a theme for LibreOffice, and improved font contrast, among other visual tweaks.
- Updated software packages, among which we have Firefox 87 and Evolution 3.40.
Ubuntu MATE 21.04 has been available on Canonical's server It's been a while, but the download has disappeared only to reappear right after this release's note was posted. Interested users can now download the new image from the project download page, among which we also have one for Raspberry Pi we'll have one for Raspberry Pi soon.
