It seems that the action of asking your Community has become fashionable. Thus, not only is Ubuntu asking its community what programs to add with the distribution, but Ubuntu MATE is also doing the same. Ubuntu MATE is the official Ubuntu flavor that uses MATE as its main desktop. The project leader, Martin Wimpress, has launched a survey to choose the programs of the next version.
However, Wimpress has not been as ambitious as Ubuntu and you have only asked about the choice of media player, a category that until now was assisted by VLC.
Ubuntu MATE has the VLC program as a multimedia player, but you want to change this option or for users to confirm the existence of this program in the official flavor. In the survey you are given three options. The first one would be VLC; the second option would be to replace the program with Gnome MPV, a fairly light option that other official flavors already use like Ubuntu Budgie; and, the third option, consists of replacing the program with the totem player, a fairly complete player thanks to its plugins and add-ons but also a heavier option than the others.
The aforementioned survey can be found at this link. In it you can not only see the survey but also participate in it and make the Ubuntu MATE developers take our opinion into account.
Personally I think it is important and interesting to choose the programs that will contain an official flavor or the main distribution. Not that Ubuntu or any of its flavors prohibit installation a posteriori, they don't, but thus many users save a lot of time when post-installation. Something that is not a nuisance if we have only one computer but it is a nuisance if we have to do installations on many computers. And you What media player do you choose?
I want amarok
Ubuntu Mate
- SM Player as a multimedia player. It is the most complete (to my liking, of course).
- And if it's for audio, Rythmbox should include an equalizer at least.
- Qbittorrent should replace Transmission. and UGet be included.
gnomenu needs a menu different from the traditional ones because of the demand for a personalized desktop that adapts to the user's tastes
genomenu would be an application that would give life and personalization of the matte desktop
