Ubuntu Studio will remain the official Ubuntu flavor

Ubuntu Studio

When I started with Ubuntu, back in 2006 as a virtual machine and in 2007 as a native, the first thing I did was edit audio. I started with Ardor, but each time I had to install more things. My "partner in crime" at that time (greetings, Joaquin) told me about Ubuntu Studio in 2008, a version of the system developed by Canonical that includes everything you need to edit audio and video in its installation. I don't know how long he's been on the Mark Shuttleworth team, but I do know that Ubuntu Studio will remain official flavor, At least for now.

This is how they have published it in their official website, where they tell us that have obtained permission and right to upload their packages as usual. In their briefing note, published on March 13, they thank the community for their support in this uncertain time, as well as the Ubuntu Developer Membership Board for approving Erich and Ross' applications. What happens when reading this joy in the words of the Ubuntu Studio team is that we are left with the feeling that the official Ubuntu flavors will drop to 7 in the not too distant future.

Ubuntu Studio: the perfect version for video and audio editing

Personally, I think that this version of Ubuntu is destined to disappear as an official flavor, that is, as an ISO image that is offered from the web Ubuntu Flavors. I THINK that sooner or later they will leave it as a package that can be installed from the Software Center as if it were a graphical environment. But as I write this last I remember all the software that included back in 2008 when I installed it on my old PC, so things are not clear at all. If I think about this possibility, it is because of the joy shown by its developers in their informative note.

What do you prefer? Do you think Ubuntu Studio has a place as an official flavor or is it destined to disappear / become unofficial?

Ubuntu Studio is one of the oldest Ubuntu spins out there, second only to Kubuntu and Xubuntu respectively. Derived distribution that this is the time and I do not understand how it is possible for it to continue afloat after almost 12 years of operation, understanding that it is specialized in nature and, therefore, its user group is also, greatly restricting its use general and also donations.

Personally I never used it but I have very good references from those who have. Like all software, the issue is money if it intends to survive, because philanthropic users who do so do not see it. I have no memory of another distribution with the same specialized features that it offers and that would make it one of a kind.

Its existence does no harm to anyone and I hope Canonical is not going to turn its back on it. If they can continue to survive, then so be it.
