Ubuntu Touch launches its OTA-13 and in some respects it is 25% faster

Ubuntu Touch OTA-13

Today, September 22, I report for the first time the launch of a new version of Ubuntu Touch being a user of the operating system in my PineTab. Although good, I have to say two things about it: on the PineTab (and I don't know if on the PinePhone, because I don't have one), the updates do not appear as "OTA", but as "Version X". On the other hand, I'm on the «Candidate» channel, so I don't know (and I'm asking) the equivalences.

In any case, what announced a few hours ago UBports is the launch of OTA-13 from Ubuntu Touch. Although the developers tell us about the most outstanding news, I would like to echo a comment extended among users: Morph Browser is now more fluid, which is a very important improvement in an operating system in which many of the applications are web and they are browser based.

Highlights of Ubuntu Touch OTA-13

Among the most outstanding novelties, we have:

  • Support for more devices from the installer:
    • Sony Xperia
    • Sony Xperia X Compact.
    • OnePlus 3.
    • OnePlus 3T.
    • Sony Xperia X Performance.
    • Sony Xperia XZ.
  • QtWebEngine 5.14 (since 5.11). This has caused it to update to the latest version of the Chromium engine and is what makes Morph Browser and webapps better. It also improves the action of copying and we can open PDF, MP3, photos and text files from the open button.
  • Old icons have been recovered in the System Settings.
  • Other general aesthetic improvements.
  • Improvements in the messages, phone and contacts apps.
  • Various fixes.

How to install the OTA-13

Supported devices will be able to install OTA-13 going to System Settings / Updates and tapping on "Check for updates". The new version has already been delivered to the stable channel, so it will also appear to the most cautious users. Those of us in the developer or candidate channel have other versions available with different numbers.
