Ubuntu Unity 21.04 now available with Yaru-Unity7 and these other news

Unity 21.04

We have to start this article by apologizing to the developers behind this version based on Canonical's system. Although we wrote about this after we wrote about Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Xubuntu and Ubuntu Budgie, the truth is that Unity 21.04 Hirsute Hippo is available from a little earlier. But today is a day in which the protagonists are the official flavors, and Unity will be (expected) in the future, but it is not yet.

So, while we wait for Ubuntu MATE and Lubuntu to write their respective release notes, we have time to put the most outstanding news which have arrived along with Ubuntu Unity 21.04, but not before remembering that Canonical left the desktop with the release of Ubuntu 17.10, at which point it returned to the GNOME it uses today. The bad thing is that it does not rain to everyone's liking, there were users who preferred Unity and this unofficial flavor (still) exists by and for those users.

Highlights of Ubuntu Unity 21.04

  • Now it is based on 21.04 (logical, but they mention it).
  • Linux 5.11.
  • Support is not mentioned, but it should be until January 2022.
  • New Yaru-Unity7 theme.
  • New transparent launcher icon.
  • New wallpaper based on Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute Hippo.
  • A new theme has been introduced for plymouth.
  • Bug Fixes: Fixed gnome-system-monitor, missing notification with volume and brightness changes has been re-added, and broken snaps have been fixed.

Along with UbuntuDDE, Ubuntu Cinnamon and Ubuntu Web, this is one of the flavors that is working to become part of the Canonical family, and it is developed by the same as the web version. At first, these flavors should be labeled "Remix", but the Deepin Desktop Edition version does not carry it either, something that personally surprises me.

But what matters, at least for Unity fans, is that Ubuntu Unity 21.04 is now available and it can be downloaded from this link.
