Ubuntu will also have the new version of Skype

Skype for Ubuntu

During yesterday, the team of Skype has presented a new version of its messaging client for Gnu / Linux operating systems, which also includes Ubuntu. This new Skype client is not only updated compared to its previous version but also offers interesting news for users of these operating systems.

The main novelty is related to its communication protocol system that makes old versions are not compatible with the new client. This will be a problem for many users, for users who do not have systems like Ubuntu, because for those who do, it will not be a big change, only a couple of commands have to be used.

The new Skype client will no longer be compatible with previous versions of Skype

Skype is updated after several months of inactivity and in this update the WebRTC channel appears that will allow an application for Chrome OS to exist and a more fluid communication between its users. Furthermore, this official client incorporates the possibility of sending any type of file or document that they want to share between users. Emoticons are also present on this client, so users can use emoticons, traditional ones, those installed in the system or those exclusive to Skype.

Regrettably this new client Skype still is in alpha state, that is, we cannot use it in production operating systems or as an official client for day-to-day work, but we can test it and, if we do not use Skype continuously, we can use this version as an official client to communicate.

In any case, it seems that Microsoft is not abandoning this platform or its communications software. Something that seemed the opposite then Skype had a very active development until months ago it stopped. Personally, it seems to me that Skype is a great client for Ubuntu, a necessary program although everything will really depend on whether our friends and acquaintances use this application or not. In any case it seems that the future of Skype is quite interesting Do not you think?

It is interesting to see how Microsoft and Canonical get along so well and that they are complementing each other in their interests. Although it smells a lot like shit from leagues, it is good to know that in GNU / Linux we can obtain many of those Microsoft software that is badly available in Linux (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc).

Still many people use Skype to communicate with the family so it is interesting that it continues to be available for Ubuntu.
