UbuntuBSD will receive a new version based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and FreeBSD 10.3

The famous distribution that mixes the FreeBSD Unix kernel with the rest of the Ubuntu system friendly environment, has been in development since last March and, at the moment, is ready to go to light. Its developers are finalizing the details for the big launch, which is expected to take place in a very short time.

For those of you who already know this system, you will know that UbuntuBSD is a unique project that offers a desktop-oriented operating system which combines the uniqueness of the Debian / Ubuntu platforms with the power of the FreeBSD kernel.

Until today, the latest version developed on this operating system was 15.10, which implies that the Ubuntu 15.10 environment (Wily Werewolf) was being used as a basis. To be near the end of support of this Ubuntu version, which will be released sometime next month, the developers have decided that it is time to give the project a new push and evolve the system to the new Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), as well as the FreeBSD kernel 10.3.

The desktop environment to be kept by default in UbuntuBSD will be based on Xfce, which has recently been updated to version 4.12 to offer a more modern and current without losing its lightness habitual. The typical open-source desktop applications, such as LibreOffice and Mozilla Firefox among others, will also be maintained. As you can see so far, the main novelty is the update of the bases that make up this distribution.

Since the final version is not yet available, you can help to finish the last phase tests the latest ISO image of your website and report any failure you find in the system. From the project website you can find various documentation and a forum specific to this distribution.
