UbuntuDDE 23.04 Lunar Lobster arrives months late with Linux 6.2 and Deepin 23

UbuntuDDE 23.04

It is never late if happiness is good. Or so they say. A few moments ago, the project that is developing the remix of Ubuntu with Deepin desktop announced the launch of UbuntuDDE 23.04 Lunar Lobster. It has arrived months late, as 23.04 should have arrived in April 2023, but they encountered various problems in their development that caused this landing to be postponed. By the way, and if I'm not mistaken, there was no 22.10, so this Remix has arrived almost a year after the earlier version.

Among the news shared we have the same Linux 6.2 used by the entire family of the lunar lobster, and includes updated Deepin applications. The support is supposed to be until January 2024, which, doing the math, if there is no 23.10 it could be abandoned sooner than expected. But let's not anticipate events and let's go with the news of UbuntuDDE 23.04.

What's new in Ubuntu DDE 23.04

  • Linux 6.2.
  • Supported until January 2024 (April 2023 + 9 months).
  • Deepin 23.
  • Up-to-date native applications, including music, video, image viewer, boot disk creation tool, system monitor, calculator, text editor, and terminal.
  • New wallpapers from the UbuntuDDE and Deepin team.
  • Future updates via OTA.

It is recommended to install the operating system on computers that have at least 4GB of RAM, 20GB of storage and a 2GHz processor.

Cheers to the developers; notice to users

From here, we would like to offer our support and encouragement to developers by UbuntuDDE Remix. The work to carry out a distribution is laborious and not easy, and anyone who develops something no matter how small can understand it. But as a medium that reports on Linux news, and the author doesn't like to paint any picture rosy, we have to talk about the delay.

UbuntuDDE 23.04 has arrived four months later than it should. It would not be a problem if we were not facing a provisional release, of those supported for 9 months, but it is the case. Canonical gives 6 months of support and three more courtesy to give time to update, but users of "interim" versions should go from provisional to provisional. If they don't release 23.10 before January, when Lunar Lobster support ends, users who stay on that version will not receive updates or security patches. You have to consider this.

And for this reason, once again, from here I cheer on the team behind UbuntuDDE.
