Unity 8 already runs traditional applications thanks to UBPorts

It's been a year since Canonical announced the abandonment of Ubuntu Touch and Unity 8. Two projects that were the flagship of the company and the Ubuntu project and were unexpectedly abandoned. After several controversial statements and attempted forks, the truth is that both projects go ahead and do not seem to have been abandoned.

The team that stands out in both projects is UBPorts. We have already talked about this team on previous occasions and it is that it has made Ubuntu Phone a true option for many smartphone users. But interestingly enough, it has also had successes in Unity 8.

Although Ubports was not going to develop Unity 8, it is true that this desktop is present in Ubuntu Phone so they have indirectly worked on it.

They have recently managed to make famous applications like Google Chrome work thanks to your contribution to Xmir bookstores. The success of the project has been recorded and published on YouTube, something that has made many users trust the future of Unity 8 and Ubuntu Phone.

Many have doubted and doubt the success of these projects, something understandable since the big company is not behind it, but it is also true that the great miracle of Free Software is taking place. Thanks tohe UBPorts Unity 8 and Ubuntu Phone community are moving forward and in a single year they have managed to get important applications for end users such as Google Chrome, working in the next version of Unity.

This will make Chrome also come to Ubuntu Phone and by extension, that the arrival of Android apps is easier for mobiles with Ubuntu Phone. I don't know if 2018 will be the year of Ubuntu Phone, but of course this mobile operating system will continue during this year and for many more years What do you think?
