UnityX Rolling, an ISO to see everything new that they are adding to Unity 10

UnityX Rolling

It has been a long time since several projects appeared that intended to become official flavors of the Ubuntu family. One of the last in submit your application It was Ubuntu Unity, with what many of us expected that we would have the discontinued Canonical graphical environment with the news that was released every six months. Well, it seems that it will not be alike at all, or so we understand after having tried UnityX Rolling. But what is this?

Without more information than the tweet you have below, at this time we can speculate and compare it with GNOME OS. Although it includes "OS", it is not a common operating system, but an image in which we can test all the new features that are being added to GNOME. UnityX is based on Ubuntu, and when we start the ISO we can see the name of the operating system, so we are probably facing the future Ubuntu Unity.

UnityX Rolling will be constantly updated

A new rolling ISO has been released with UnityX (which will continue to receive the latest changes), based on Ubuntu, and can be found at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders. Unfortunately the unityx.org server is down at the moment and we have reported the issue to @fosshostorg

And what do we see once we start the ISO? Indeed, an Ubuntu-based system, with Hirsute Hippo's wallpaper. Conky is also visible, and in the top bar we see what would be the system tray in the center, usage information on the right and panels on the left to see the open apps, the launcher / app drawer, the session menu, and the foreground app.

For everything else, everything seems very strange to me. At least in a GNOME Boxes virtual machine, the launcher does not appear when I put the mouse on the edge, which I am not going to criticize because I am not sure how it works but I think it would be a good idea. I also find it strange to see the volume and connections (tray or system tray) in the center, but we must bear in mind that we are facing an ISO of something "under construction".

As soon as we start it, we see a window that explains some shortcuts to remove the application launcher (Alt + A), open apps (Alt + W), log out immediately (Alt + X) and sound settings (Alt + S)

Under construction ... continue

At the moment, this is just an ISO that will be updated with all the news that they add. If you want to try it, it can be downloaded from this link. We'll see where it ends, but I don't know if Unity purists will give the go-ahead for UnityX Rolling and the future of the desktop.

I think the best thing they can do with unity is polish unity 8 and that they just port everything to qt. This is a waste of energy
