cover-update-shotwell

Despite the cloud of uncertainty that had been implanted in Yorba regarding some applications, it seems that they have resumed development both Shotwell and Geary (email client), two of its most important applications.

So in Ubunlog We want to show you how you can install the latest version of Shotwell on our Ubuntu 16.04 in the simplest way possible. We tell you.

Last year, the development company Yorba set up a cloud of uncertainty in the users of its two biggest applications: Shotwell and Geary.

Luckily recently Yorba has assigned the rights of Yorba and Shotwell to the SFC (Software Freedom Conservancy), a non-profit organization that is responsible for helping to promote, develop and improve any type of application that is Free Software.

Since this time, Shotwell's responsibility has fallen on GNOME's Jens Georg, who reportedly:

"My mission is to ensure that Shotwell remains the Linux image manager that it is."So nothing is further from the truth, Jens Georg has already made two launches from Shotwell, two updates that have completely taken up the development of the application from where it had left off, giving rise to the version Shotwell 0.23.1. These are some of their new arrivals:

  • Facebook app ID update to get Facebook integration working again.
  • Fixed a file monitor bug when renaming an image.
  • Updated icons, including symbolic icons and high resolution.
  • "Yorba website" has been renamed to "Shotwell website" in the "About" tab.
  • Possibility for Shotwell to work with symbolic links.
  • Allow the viewer to close when there is a problem loading an image.
  • Fixed bug when displaying an image without meta-data.
  • Toolbar now uses GtkOverlay instead of a custom pop-up
  • Critical bugs in the cursor hiding algorithm have been fixed.

Installing Shotwell 0.23.1 on Ubuntu 16.04

For to install The new version of Shotwell is as simple as adding the corresponding repository, updating the repositories and finally installing the Shotwell package. For this we execute:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: yg-jensge / shotwell

sudo apt update

In addition, we remind you that Shotwell is Free Software under the GPL v.2.1 license, so you can see its source code at your official GitHub repository.

We hope you liked the news as much as we did and you install / update Shotwell to its latest version. See you 😉
