Update your kernel: Canonical fixes the bug in Ubuntu 19.10 and more bugs in other versions

Ubuntu kernel ok

Just 24 hours ago, Canonical updated the Ubuntu kernel 19.10. Although it was still to be confirmed, we thought that it could not be anything other than the failure with which Eoan Ermine was launched and which we refer to in this article, and so it has been. That bug, present only in Ubuntu 19.10, has already been corrected. But if you thought that the rest of the supported Ubuntu versions were fine, you are wrong, they had other bugs that have also been fixed.

And is that Canonical has released new versions of the kernel for all versions of Ubuntu supported in their normal life cycle. As always, he has published the reports after fixing the vulnerabilities, being in Eoan Ermine a USN-4161-1 that describes the failure collected in the previous link. The vulnerability in this case is the CVE-2019-18198 which describes a flaw in IPv6 that could be used by a local attacker to crash the system or run arbitrary code.

The pre-Eoan Ermine kernel has also been updated

The Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine kernel was released with a bug and we don't like that, but older versions have also received new kernel versions for more severe reasons. The report USN-4162-1 speaks of a total of 10 vulnerabilities fixed in the last two LTS versions i.e Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04. Of these 10 bugs, 9 are medium priority and one low priority, but there are all kinds, among which there is one related to WiFi or another that repairs a Specter mitigation. The kernel that has had to receive the most affection have been those of Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04, since there is a third report, the USN-4157-2, which tells us about 9 other bugs fixed in Bionic Beaver and a fourth, the USN-4163-1, which tells us about 10 others in Xenial Xerus.

New kernel versions are already available in the different software centers or from the Software Update app. In the case of Eoan Ermine, they have been since yesterday. Once the new versions are installed, the computer will have to be restarted for the changes to take effect.

The usual, it is only necessary to keep the system updated.
