Urban Terror is based on using some realism, but without forgetting its motto which is 'fun over realism'. This results in a very unique, fun and addictive game. The game focuses on combine realism with fast-paced action from other games like Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament.

In this fun game, weapons available they are less accurate when fired while the player is moving and need to be reloaded after spending the magazine. As to the damages that these can inflict is also realistic. In addition to the damage system, wounds require bandages so that they do not adversely affect the player's mobility.

During the game we will find a system of physical resistance. The player will become exhausted when performing activities such as running or jumping. The external environments they seek their part of reality. These can include climatic effects such as rain or snow.

Game modes in Urban Terror

  • Capture the Flag (CTF): The objective is capture the opposing team's flag and bring it to your own base.
  • Team Survivor (TS): Eliminate the opposing team's players, until at least one survivor from your own team remains or time runs out. This mode works by «Rounds«.
  • Team Deathmatch (TDM): Here we seek to eliminate the players of the opposite team. The difference with Team Survivor is that in this mode the player is reborn.
  • Bomb Mode: This mode is similar to Team Survivor. The difference is that a team has to activate a bomb in the enemy base and the other team has to prevent this from happening.
  • Follow the leader (FollowTLead): It is similar to Team Survivor. It consists of the leader must touch the enemy flag found in random positions.
  • Free for All (FFA): It is not played as a team, it is an individual mode where you have to kill all the other players.
  • Capture And Hold (CapnHold): Consists of two teams that must seize a certain number of flags distributed throughout the map.

On the project website, in the download section you can find the links to download the game. The file to download has a size of 1.4 GB. At the end of the download you just have to unzip the package and find the game launcher inside.

Another simpler way to install this game on our Ubuntu system is using the corresponding snap package.

If you prefer to use the terminal, open one (Ctrl + Alt + T) and run the following command to start the snap package installation:

This may take some time, depending on the speed of your internet connection, since the download of the game exceeds 1 GB in size.

After the installation, we can check if there is a package update and apply it in case it is found, typing in the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) the following command:

After checking for updates, we can now look for the launcher in our team:
