Several KDE applications arrive in Ubuntu snap format

KDE Plasma 5.4 Image

Many experts believe that the universal Flatpak format is triumphing over the Ubuntu snap format, so they decide to make their projects in the flatpak format.

The truth is that both a format and another format are having quite a few followers and quite a few programs, even coexisting in some distributions, such as Ubuntu Budgie, which will have the two universal application systems.

Major Linux desktops seem to be taking a stand on it too. So while Gnome is collaborating with the Flatpak project, it appears that KDE has opted for the Ubuntu snap format. Thus recently several KDE applications have come out in snap format, being fully available in this format for any user.

KDE applications will grow in snap format thanks to KDE-Frameworks-5

The KDE applications that have been ported so far are: KRuler, KAtomic, KBlocks, KGeography and KDE-Frameworks-5. The latter is the most important of all because it will not only allow more KDE applications to be ported to the snap format, but it will also help to port other applications or even the Plasma desktop itself.

In addition, the installation of these packages is very simple and fast. For the installation, we have to open the terminal and write the following:

sudo snap install kde-frameworks-5
sudo snap install kruler ( u otra aplicación kde)

As you can see, the installation of these programs in snap format is a simple, simple and fast process, much like the apt-get command and without the need for any extra repository as it happens with many other Gnu / Linux programs.

It must be emphasized that installing kde-frameworks-5 is important to be done first otherwise, we could have some other operating problem, since the package contains the necessary dependencies for the rest of KDE applications to work correctly.

I personally believe that KDE will not be the only desktop to reach the snap format, but it is appreciated that it arrives before others to this format Do not you think?

I do not like for ANYTHING that divergence in something that MUST be a STANDARD; that Flatpak, that snap, that I sweat, that pacman, that an egg or that they grab me the other!

It's fucking good that they don't collaborate with each other, that there are many desks is fine because it's a matter of taste (LXDE, Mate, Gnome, etc.), but PTM this MUST BE A DAMN STANDARD YES OR YES !!
