One of the things that Dolphin lacks after an installation by default is the display of video file thumbnails. It is common for new users of the file manager to KDE wonder why the vast majority of files have thumbnail previews except for videos, although it is something that can be easily fixed by installing the package kffmegthumbnailer.
The package is usually not installed by default in Kubuntu –Or in other distributions– for license issues. To install it, just open a console and enter the command:
sudo apt-get install kffmpegthumbnailer
We accept the installation of the package and its dependencies, and proceed to close the console.
The next thing is to ask Dolphin to create the thumbnails of the video files, for this we open Dolphin and go to Control, Select Configure Dolphin. In the configuration menu we go to the section General and then we select the tab Previews. We mark the option kffmpegthumbnailer –And some of the others available if we feel like it–, we apply the changes and accept.
With this we can now view the thumbnails of video files.
Alternatively we can install the package ffmpegthumbnailer. However, some users find this option to be slower when creating thumbnails of folders with a large number of video files while the kffmpegthumbnailer it usually gets the job done a lot faster.

are things that should already come by default in KDE
Agree with you. Those who maintain distributions with KDE should improve the default configurations, in many cases they are lacking and have no excuse. KDE allows that and much more.
PS: The comment system is very bad, quotes cannot be added (I save myself what I think about disqus.com.)
That phrase is not true for all distributions. For example, NetRunner shows thumbnails of the videos from Dolphin. And it is not the only one, the same thing happened in Pardus (if I remember correctly).
I remember that in kde this option was already installed ... but I'm using the new Kubuntu and you don't bring this option ... humm, these are things that a curious person who likes challenges may not be bothered but for a common user accustomed to Win frustrating
