Vivaldi 2.3, installation in Ubuntu 18.10 and Ubuntu 18.04 from repository

about Vivaldi 2.3

In the next article we are going to take a look at Vivaldi 2.3. This has been the first update of this year released for the browser. If you already knew the Vivaldi browser, you will know that it is a web browser created by the founder of Opera and that it seeks to adapt to the user. According to its website, this has been the goal of the project from the beginning.

Vivaldi does not limit users to default and locked settings in the name of simplicity. In fact, Vivaldi is built on a solid and extensible foundation that seeks to provide the user with the opportunity to tailor the browser to their preferences down to the smallest detail. This flexibility is what makes this browser popular.

It is an option to browse the web easy to customize And it offers some cool options, like grouping tabs or taking notes with full page screenshots. We will also be able to change the appearance of the browser with custom themes, enable / disable search suggestions and many other options.

General characteristics of Vivaldi 2.3

Vivaldi 2.3 general options

  • This is a relatively minor update. Vivaldi 2.3 is the first this year and the star feature of this update is the tabs that stack automatically. This is a very useful function for those of us who handle many tabs at the same time.
  • The management of tabs has also been improved, providing them with greater functionality. Vivaldi's tabs management options give us multiple ways to access and manage tabs effectively.

Grouped tabs in Vivaldi 2.3

  • As was the case in version 2.2, we will be able to save selected tabs as a session. The saved sessions option will allow users to save a group of tabs that we want to reopen later. It will also allow us to rename these sessions to help keep us organized as we begin to work with many sessions.
  • In the side panel we will find a better quick access to bookmarks and downloads. In addition we will also find the tool to take notes and add your own file name template for the screenshots, which are made with the integrated tool.
  • The new Vivaldi will also offer us other what's new in search suggestions that the browser will show us in the drop-down menu as soon as you start writing a URL. One of them is that it will allow us to choose if we want to add your favorites and recently visited pages to that menu.

These are just some of the features of Vivaldi 2.3. They can check all the features more in detail from the project website.

Install Vivaldi 2.3 on Ubuntu

We will be able to install Vivaldi on Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish, Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver, Linux Mint 19.x and other Ubuntu-derived systems from the repository in a simple way. To do so, we will have to manually add the repository, download and install the key, update the repository index, and install the vivaldi-stable package. For this example I am going to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) of Ubuntu 18.10 and write the following lines:

Add repo to install Vivaldi 2.3

sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=i386,amd64] http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable main"

If after adding the repository we see on the screen a GPG error like the one that can be seen in the previous screenshot, we can solve it by writing something like the following in the same terminal:

gpg keyserver vivaldi

gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 8D04CE49EFB20B23

gpg --export --armor Vivaldi

gpg --export --armor 8D04CE49EFB20B23 | sudo apt-key add -

After this we can update the available software index:

update Vivaldi 2.3

sudo apt-get update

Once the update is finished, it only remains install browser typing the command:

install vivaldi 2.3 from repository

sudo apt-get install vivaldi-stable

Another option for the installation of this version of Vivaldi is to proceed with its download from website of the project. Once there, you just have to download the corresponding .DEB file and install it as always in our Ubuntu.

Uninstall Vivaldi

To remove Vivaldi from our Ubuntu, you just have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write in it:

Uninstall Vivaldi 2.3

sudo apt-get remove vivaldi*

Vivaldi is one of the best alternative browsers for users looking to get a little more out of the application they use on a day-to-day basis to browse. This new version without major changes, continues on that path.

False what? The title of the article says: Vivaldi 2.3, installation on Ubuntu 18.10 and Ubuntu 18.04 from repository. I think nothing is said about Ubuntu 20.04 at any time. Salu2.
