VLC 2.1.1 adds experimental support for HEVC and VP9

VLC 2.1.1

The developer team of VLC has released version 2.1.1 of the popular and robust Media player.

One of the new arrivals most interesting of VLC 2.1.1 is the experimental support for HEVC / H.265 y VP9, both next generation video codecs. Some issues with recording, shuffle play, and subtitles have also been fixed.

Other changes present in this version are: improvements in the reproduction of OGG, MKV, WAV, FLAC and AVI files; DirectSound, OSS and D-Bus improvements; many improvements in the Qt interface (in the menus, in the preferences and in the drag-drop option); as well as many improvements in the translations in which the software is distributed.

The detailed change list is available at this link.

For now, no repository has this version of VLC but the packages to compile, for the most impatient, are available at this link.
