VLC 3.0.8 comes, in part, to avoid security messages of a bug already fixed

At the end of June dropped the bomb: VLC had a very serious security flaw and we had to uninstall the player. But, first, the security flaw was not part of VLC and, second, the flaw had already been fixed many months before. Today, VideoLAN has released VLC 3.0.8 and, as far as we can understand so posted on Twitter, one of the reasons for the launch is that some "security scanners" kept warning that there was a security flaw that does not really exist.

As we read in the release note, this is the eighth maintenance update in this series, named "Vetinari". Although it is a minor release, it is have fixed several security flaws And from now on, VideoLAN will publish security bulletins for each of the releases of the new versions of VLC.   • Fix bumpy or jerky playback in low framerate videos.
  • Improve adaptive streaming support.
  • Fix the WebVTT subtitle rendering.
  • Improve audio output on macOS and iOS. On macOS it also fixes AV sync when using external audio devices.
  • Updated YouTube script.
  • Improved buffering in networks.
  • Fix channel order in some MP4 files.
  • Fix flaws in TS over HLS.
  • Add a real poll of HLS transmissions.
  • Fix HLS MIME backtracking.
  • Direct3D11: Fixed hardware acceleration for some AMD drivers.
  • Fix transcoding when decoder doesn't set chroma.
  • Fixed security flaws, including 5 buffer overflows and 11 CVEs.

VLC 3.0.8 is now available for Windows and macOS from the website of the release note that we mentioned above. Linux users have several options, among which is its Snap package, but at the time of writing these lines they have still uploaded the new version. It will appear in the different software centers in the coming days.
