Wavebox, email client for our Ubuntu

Wavebox license

In the next article we are going to take a look at Wavebox Email Client (known as wmail ). This is an open source email client that will allow us to access different online services such as email, collaboration tools, etc., all in the same dashboard.

Some of the tools we can work with include gmail, Google inbox, Outlook, Office 365, Slack, Trello, and many others. This client is multi platform. Works great on OSX, Windows, and Gnu / Linux.

This application, which is a webapp built with Electron, basically what it does is use a wrapper for the original interfaces of Gmail and Google Inbox. To these it adds features such as native desktop notifications, an indicator that shows lists of read and unread emails, etc.

Wavebox will allow us gather all our web communication tools for faster and smarter work. Before proceeding with the Wavebox Email Client installation on Ubuntu, let's take a quick look at its features.

Wavebox email client features

This email client supports additional online services such as storage, calendars and task management. It will also help us eliminate desktop clutter by adding links to your favorite networks, such as the company intranet, Facebook and Newsfeed.

Wavebox will allow us to easily switch between our accounts. It will also provide us with a "sleep" function on any account, making it sit quietly in the background, while still being able to stay up-to-date on new notifications.

The program will provide users with a tool such as the spell check in the configured language. It will offer us simultaneous suggestions as well as corrections in several languages. It also supports all existing keyboard shortcuts in mail managers.

It integrates with the native notifications of each operating system. Allows you to use multi-accounts in the services available. This is a lightweight program, which also includes automatic updates, dictionaries in more than 40 languages to correct the texts and many customization options to suit each user.

In the latest version of wave box some changes have been added with respect to previous versions, in addition the dependencies have been updated. A change to highlight is that it will allow us to automatically establish the update channel. Another feature added to this program is the unread mode for Microsoft accounts. Mailbox wizards have also been updated to get more information when selecting an unread mode.

As a last characteristic to highlight, say that remember the last download folder.

Install Wavebox on Ubuntu 17.04 and derivatives

wave box

We can have Wavebox for teams 32-bit and 64-bit Ubuntu. It will only change the .deb file that we will download from the page of GitHub. To proceed with its installation we can use gdebi. In the following example I will use it to install the mail manager. We will do all this from the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T).

32bit OS

sudo apt install gdebi

wget https://github.com/wavebox/waveboxapp/releases/download/v3.1.16/Wavebox_3_1_16_linux_ia32.deb

sudo gdebi Wavebox_3_1_16_linux_ia32.deb

64bit OS

sudo apt install gdebi

wget https://github.com/wavebox/waveboxapp/releases/download/v3.1.16/Wavebox_3_1_16_linux_x86_64.deb

sudo gdebi Wavebox_3_1_16_linux_x86_64.deb

Uninstall Wavebox from Ubuntu

Uninstalling an Ubuntu program is almost as easy as installing it. We will only have to open the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write something like the following.

sudo apt remove wavebox && sudo apt autoremove

It must be clarified that this is the free version (basic) with which we can add up to two google accounts. If you need more possibilities you will have to go to the premium version that will already give us full access to all the features of the program.

As a personal opinion I will say that this application can be an interesting option for those people who are regular Gmail and Google Inbox users. Especially if they use several accounts, although it is important to indicate that it is still in the process of maturing. It is distributed under the BSD license, also known as “FreeBSD license".
