Snap packages are more and more used, but it is true that certain Ubuntu-based distributions as well as older versions of Ubuntu still cannot use this type of package.
This has been partly fixed thanks to an update that Ubuntu 14.04 has recently received or rather the snap tools that are already compatible with Ubuntu 14.04. This will allow use snap packages in this old version, which is a great advantage and help for those who do not want to update the distribution to newer versions.
The snap packages will be very interesting for Ubuntu 14.04 users and for those who use distributions that are based on this LTS version of Ubuntu. But this will require a small sacrifice for its users, which will be updating certain components, including the kernel.
Ubuntu 14.04 users were unable to use snap packages so far
So during its installation we have to update certain components. Personally, we can do it manually, thanks to the update and upgrade commands, before installing the snap packages, but in this case we recommend that the package itself request it, since Ubuntu 14.04 is not the latest version Ubuntu LTS. Thus, we open the terminal and write the following:
sudo apt-get install snapd
After this, it will ask us to update components like kernel, systemd or Apparmor, elements that do not usually like in updates for the simple fact that they usually cause problems if we have a very updated version and the rest of the elements do not, but if we want to use the snap installer we have to do it.
Once we have installed snapd, we can not only use snap but also install any package or application using this format. Here We tell you a series of apps in snap format that we can install on our Ubuntu 14.04 and that will be of great help to us.

It remains to be seen if this benefits the operation of the Distro.
