WebRender will reach 25% of users today, but so you can activate and use it today

Today May 27, Mozilla will activate WebRender 25% of users of Firefox 67. On the 22nd, the latest version of one of the most famous web browsers was launched and the new rendering system is one of the outstanding novelties that it brought under its arm. The downside is that, to make sure everything works as it should, only Windows users whose computer has an Intel graphics card have it activated since last Tuesday. In the list of news of the beta of Firefox 68 they say that they have also activated the option in Windows computers with AMD graphics cards. And the rest?

Next Thursday, Mozilla will have activated the option in 50% of devices, while the remaining 50% will receive it from the same day. It will do it remotely, which means that users will not have to do anything ... or we can do it manually and we can do it now. Yes: we can activate WebRender manually, but I think we must remember how we have done it in case we experience a failure and want to make the way back. Another option, which is what I have done, is test it in the beta of Firefox 68. You have the complete process below.

How to activate WebRender in Firefox

  1. Optional, but recommended: we downloaded Firefox 68 which is currently in the testing phase. Firefox 67+ allows multiple installations, which means that we can run Firefox 68 completely independently. We can download it in our language from this link.
  2. We launch Firefox. If we want, we can test it in the stable version. If we do it in beta, we first have to unzip the downloaded file and then run the "firefox" file.
  3. In the address bar, we enter "about: config" without the quotes.
  4. We click on "I accept the risk!"
  5. We search for "webrender."
  6. We have to modify (secondary click):
    • gfx.webrender.all
    • gfx.wenderder.enabled
  7. Finally, we restart Firefox.

And that would be all. Now you can go to about: support / Graphics and check that in Graphics / Composition it says "WebRender." There should be no problem, but if there are, we can go back to the default configuration by performing the steps from the second to the seventh to return to "false" what we have changed to put "true". Have you already done it? How are you doing?
