Windows 10 will be able to integrate Ubuntu and make it work

windows 10 and ubuntu

Although many of you think it is a joke or false news, the truth is that the news is real. During these days it is taking place BUILD 2016, one of the biggest events that Microsoft creates around its software.

In this event and to open your mouth, the guys from Canonical and Microsoft have announced that during the next few days will teach how to integrate Ubuntu into Windows 10 thanks to some new updates that the windows operating system is creating and also thanks to Canonical's new container system, the LXD 2, a system that will allow to include Ubuntu functions in Windows 10.

Canonical and Microsoft will make it possible for Ubuntu to integrate into Windows 10

This system it won't be anything like emulation or dual boot. The user will run Windows 10 and Ubuntu simultaneously, although this does not mean that we can use elements like Unity or Nautilus in Windows 10. At the moment we know that Windows 10 will be able to run the Ubuntu terminal and LXD. Something short but important to start. At the end of the process and after several updates, Windows 10 will be able to offer all the power of Ubuntu without any problem if we wish.. This does not mean that we cannot install Gnome, Unity or Plasma in Windows 10, something that will happen sooner or later but it is not the end of the project.

Unfortunately, we cannot do the other way around. That is to say, Ubuntu at the moment will not be able to run Windows applications natively, nor will it have the famous Cortana or even the data tracking and privacy that Microsoft has. Something that bothers many but sincerely, I prefer it that way, because if it comes true, we could be facing an imminent loss of identity, Ubuntu being the same as Windows 10 and messing with the user although if the project is successful, surely that fear is confirmed and it happens. Even so, you have to wait to see how the integration process is and if it is really worth using it or not. What do you think?

    Really? Oo
I only know that when I updated it to this I deleted the MBR from the grub and most of the system folders and Ubuntu configurations that I had ... I had to reinstall everything again. XD

It gives me a bad feeling, I don't know. You have to remember that Windows 10 in itself is a Spyware ...

you have to format the disk in ms-dos and remove the gpt, so that by default win10 and ubu are installed as legacy bios, without efi, lvm, or dicks, .. or better yet not use windows. I have not used it for years

Drivers are better for me in Ubuntu than in Windows 10, it would be cool to be able to use Windows 10 applications (that is, the ones downloaded from the Windows Store) in Ubuntu, for example minecraft windows 10 and xbox.

Wow, if this is true it will be impressive, currently I use ubuntu and windows 10 simultaneously, if I could use windows 10 as the default system and at the same time use the linux terminal to program without having to virtualize or dual-boot, it would be great advantage 🙂

Goodbye Ubuntu, if the giant can't join him, follow in his wake and destroy it as soon as possible, that's what one of Microsoft's founders said when they finished with Nescape. Windows benefits from the virtues of Ubuntu but not the other way around, it's a joke. What a pity.

Nonsense, Free software must remain as Such, FREE !. if it is integrated into Windows, who assures me that Ubuntu will not be hacked to spy on our identity ... I think it is a bad decision on Canonical's part to allow this level of integration as an "all in One". Regrettable

that windows users enjoy ubuntu? it's fucking right? A shame that canonical does this windows will only use it nothing more than that, it is funny and sad to resort to this until it disgusts me to think of windows.

And what is Microsoft up to? Maybe a new way of gradually knocking down our beloved Linux (regardless of the distribution) or is it that Gates and his partners finally understood that the future lies in free software ?. Let's wait a little.

I wish this news was false. Hopefully Canonical's statements about this are very well justified. We trust them and free software!

  27.   dbillyx said

If even the title of this news is weird…. It says that windows 10 will be able to integrate ubuntu and make it work ... that is, ubuntu being alone has never worked ... and if windows 10 can integrate it, that means that it implies that windows is more powerful to integrate another system that has not worked within itself ... . And apart from that since that system has not worked now that I integrate it if it could work… .. then?

It seems to me that Windows, has scored a goal against Canonical, they do nothing for nothing. But let's give it time, what happens.

It's been many years since I've been away from Windows, but for certain reasons I had to virtualize it, one or two crazy applications, well, put me as paranoid but I don't like this at all.

If you cannot defeat your enemy join him, thus you defeat him from within. Hopefully Ubuntu is clear about its concepts and that money does not corrupt them.

I don't like the idea, I just want to be able to use ubuntu for personal things, and windows for work things. I don't want windows 10 snooping around what I do in ubuntu.

The happy ending came to everyone.
    Canonical sells ubuntu to windows.
Microsoft improves its system with linux.
Linux users who hate ubuntu so much say goodbye to it in the field of distros.
As users, we win with a system that collects the best of both worlds.
Microsoft finally integrates unity and its desktop improves radically.
Microsoft integrates all the ubuntu tools in a matter of convergence to improve its products.
Microsoft, using the ubuntu linux tools, allows you to natively install the android apps.
    Etc. Etc. Etc …… ..
