In the next article we are going to take a look at something that is more aesthetic than functional, the 3D task switching by pressing Alt + TAB. So let's see how we can get a Windows Aero Flip 3D task switcher to style the 'Alt + Tab' key combination in Ubuntu 17.10.

As everyone knows by now Ubuntu 17.10 has switched to Gnome Shell, this has its good points. That is why we will be able to easily activate through a Gnome Shell extension called 'Coverflow Alt-Tab'. If this is the first time that we are going to install an extension for Gnome Shell, we will have to enable the integration of our favorite browser by following the following steps.

Install web plugin

To begin with, we will have to choose an add-on to install, depending on the web browser that we plan to use to navigate:

  • For Google Chrome, Chromium and Vivaldi, we can install the necessary add-on through the following link.
  • In case of using Firefox, we will need the following add-on, which is downloadable from the Mozilla Addons site.
  • For Opera, we will be able to install it from the site Opera Addons.

Install the connector

At this point, we will have to open the terminal using (Ctrl + Alt + T), and then execute the following command to install the connector:

sudo apt install chrome-gnome-shell

Install the coverflow-alt-tab extension

To finish, from our browser, we are going to go to web extensions for gnome and look at it coverflow-alt-tab. Once located, we will only have to turn on the switch to install the extension.

When the installation is finished, we can press Alt + Tab on the keyboard to see the results of the extension we just made.

For configure converflow-alt-tab extension, we will need install Gnome Tweaks through the Ubuntu software application. This is a tool that allows us to customize the desktop in a visual, easy and simple way. This is an ideal solution for those users who do not like to use the terminal.

Once open, we will be able to configure the newly installed extension. For this we will only have to click the gear button that appears on the Extensions tab.
