Wine 2.0.1 is now available but not in the traditional place

Wine

Wine is a windows emulator that allows us to run Microsoft Windows applications on our Ubuntu. It is an important and much needed tool for many that makes it one of the programs to install after installing Ubuntu.

Today in the Ubuntu repositories there is a version of Wine but the version that is hosted there is not the latest version that exists. The latest version of this program is called Wine 2.0.1, a version that brings many improvements not only for the program but also for the most gamer Ubuntu users.

Like any other version of Wine, this one brings quite a few bug fixes and problems that have been reported. A) Yes, Wine 2.0.1 is more stable than previous versions. This version also brings support for games like Need for Speed or tools like Git for Windows or the Unreal4Engine engine, a very popular video game engine.

Wine 2.0.1 will allow the Unreal video game engine to run better

However, this time, Wine 2.0.1 will not be found in Launchpad but it will be hosted in another repository, so if we want to have this version, we have to use it. Unfortunately, this repository only has support for 32 bits, so if we use a 64-bit platform, we have to add the following line in the terminal:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

Then we have to introduce the following lines in the terminal to add the new repository:

sudo apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'
wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key && sudo apt-key add Release.key

So if we don't have Wine installed, we have to install it as follows:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install winehq-stable

But if we already have it, we only have to use the command:

sudo apt-get upgrade

In any case, this will allow us to have the latest version of Wine, an emulator that will run programs for Windows and what is more important for many, video games from other platforms.

    The wine ppa is for 64 bits, adding the architecture is due to some dependencies:

    WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR !! correct that and when you want to give a news, investigate more about the subject that you are going to talk about .. wine is a compatibility layer and even in its initials it clearly emphasizes that it is not an emulator Wine Is Not an Emulator !!

      You can start by correcting the "go" with "ll".
