Wine Staging, the supervitaminated Wine that we lacked

Currently when we need the urgent need to use a certain program in our Ubuntu, we always use Wine, a fabulous program that will have done more than one a great favor. However, there are still certain programs that resist working well due to a problem with the graphics card, as happens in some video games or due to the lack of a library.

It seems that this has affected more than one of us because the guys from the Pipelight project have developed a fork of Wine called Wine Staging that is based on Wine but with many bug fixes and fixes to make it work better.

In addition, the developers have announced that they want to modify the system of updates and corrections so that they are faster in such a way that the Community is benefited and also a section of experiences and suggestions is created where feedback is sent to the project.

The developers themselves are aware of what was created so they do not offer the full version in their repositories, for this you have to install it separately and then install Wine Staging. However, in some repositories everything has been uploaded to facilitate installation.

Installing Wine Staging on Ubuntu

In the case of Ubuntu, the repositories for the installation of Wine Staging are not complete, so we must first install Wine through the Ubuntu Software Center or terminal

sudo apt-get install wine

Once we have finished, we insert the Wine Staging repository and proceed to its installation as follows:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipelight/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends wine-staging

With this, the Wine Staging installation will start and it will be applied to the Wine installation we have, with which the modifications and corrections of Wine Staging will be ready. This must be remembered because if it were the other way around, that is, first install Wine Staging and then Wine, the installation would not be effective and we would only have Wine. Now you just have to try something that will be worth it.

Thanks for the warning. Hope this fixes several of the issues I had in Wine with games :)

Well, it is to prove it. I have not had a chance to test games on Xubuntu.
