With GNOME 44 already among us, the project focuses on the development of GNOME 45

This week in GNOME

This Week has arrived GNOME 44 in what has become the present of the project and its entire circle. Now it's time to do two things, or three: for those who can't use it yet, wait; for those who are using it, enjoy it; and both, find out about all the news that they are preparing for GNOME 45, which will be available after the summer. Everything they are preparing will be published on TWIG, and we will echo it with weekly articles.

Most of the changes that have been presented today are application updates, whether they are from GNOME, which are going to become part of the project (those that are currently in the incubator) or from their circle, which are not official but are supported by GNOME. . The first change tells us that AdwAboutWindow (Libadwaita) now has a constructor new_from_appdata which allows the creation of AdwAboutWindow from valid AppStream metadata. the rest of the News list is what you have below.

This week in GNOME

  • Loupe now supports displaying animated GIFs, PNGs and WebPs. The HEIC (x265 codec) image format can now be separated into an extension that loads automatically if available. This is mainly due to pending software patents that may apply in some countries. Last but not least, image format detection has been unified. Loupe will now, in many situations, be able to load images with the wrong extension and display the actual format of the image in the properties.
  • Share Preview 0.3.0 has arrived with:

    • Updated translations.
