With Linux 5.4.1 available now, the series is ready for mass adoption

Linux 5.4.1

Yesterday, Arne Exton released a new version of his Exton|OS, one of the first systems to use Linux 5.4. Exton often adopts software earlier than recommended, sometimes releasing systems based on other systems that are still in beta. Linux 5.4 reached stable version last Sunday, but it was not until today, when it was launched Linux 5.4.1, that the series is already ready for mass adoption.

Right now, if we are going to kernel.org, we can see that v5.4 is marked as "main", but v5.4.1 of the Linux kernel is already marked as stable. This means that the kernel developer team already recommends it for any Linux distribution to add to their operating system or stable repositories. If you are wondering, Canonical will not offer this version. Already in April and if nothing happens, Focal Fossa will arrive with v5.5.

Linux 5.4.1 is the first maintenance release in this series

In total, Linux 5.4.1 includes 1631 changes, of which 69 are new files, 1090 are inserts and 472 deletions. This is the first maintenance release in this series, so anyone with v5.4 of the Linux kernel installed should upgrade to this release.

There are different ways to update the Linux kernel, but one of the best for being a GUI tool that we always talk about is Greatness. Greatness It notifies us if there is a new version, it tells us how it is labeled, it allows us to install it and even delete previous versions.

Linux 5.4 came with some interesting news, but the most prominent are the security module known as Lockdown, controversial because once activated (the Linux distribution will decide) we will lose some control over our team, and the support for exFAT, the file system that Microsoft released this summer.
